Liverpool, Chelsea through

01/28/2012 08:11:28 PM

Liverpool and Chelsea both progressed to the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday, with wins over their respective rivals.

Anfield club Liverpool claimed a 2-1 victory at home at English Premier League champions Manchester United, courtesy of a late strike from Dutchman Dirk Kuyt.

Daniel Agger fired the hosts ahead through a back-post header in the 21st minute, with Park Ji-Sung responding for Sir Alex Ferguson's men on 38 minutes when he powered home a cross from Rafael.

But Kuyt had the final say on the contest in the 88th minute, drilling a shot past goalkeeper David de Gea after Andy Carroll flicked a header into the attacker's path.

In a west London derby, Chelsea gained revenge away to Queens Park Rangers, reversing their 1-0 league loss at Loftus Road earlier this season with victory by the same scoreline.

Similarly to their league outing, the match was decided by a contentious penalty - converted by Juan Mata - as referee Mike Dean adjudged Clint Hill to have fouled Daniel Sturridge in the area, despite minimal contact.

Chris Eagles struck the winner for Bolton in their 2-1 triumph over fellow Premier League outfit Swansea City, with the former Burnley man making the most of City goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel's error in spilling Martin Petrov's shot.

Stoke City progressed with a 2-0 win over Derby County at Pride Park, while Norwich City escaped a replay when they nicked a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion with Simeon Jackson scoring in the 85th minute.

League Two side Crawley Town bundled out Championship high-flyers Hull City with a 1-0 victory away at the KC Stadium, after Matthew Tubbs scored the game's only goal.

Adam Rooney scored a brace in Birmingham City's 4-0 drubbing of Sheffield United, while Leicester City's Jermaine Beckford scored both of his side's goals in their 2-0 triumph over League Two outfit Swindon Town.

Stevenage beat Notts County 1-0 thanks to an own goal from County's Jamaican defender Damion Stewart in their all-League Two clash.

Blackpool avoided defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday after scoring a late penalty through Kevin Phillips to force a 1-1 stalemate, booking a fourth-round replay with their League One opponents.

Finally, Milwall needed a late intervention from Darius Henderson in the 86th minute to salvage a 1-1 draw at home and force a replay against fellow Championship club Southampton.

In the late kick-off, Championship outfit Brighton and Hove Albion upset English Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United 1-0.

Mike Williamson's own goal with just 14 minutes left sealed progression for Gus Poyet's side.
