Leverkusen stay in the hunt

Bayer Leverkusen maintained the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 on Saturday.

Goals from Sebastian Boenisch, Stefan Kiessling and Andre Schurrle led second-placed Leverkusen to victory over Frankfurt, who remain fourth on the table.

Boenisch opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Kiessling doubled the advantage two minutes later.

Schurrle put the result beyond doubt on 58 minutes, while Alexander Meier added a consolation goal for Frankfurt.

Leverkusen are nine points behind the rampaging Bayern, who accounted for bottom-placed Greuther Fuerth 2-0 in Munich.

Bayern striker Mario Mandzukic found the net on either side of half-time, condemning Fuerth to their 11th loss of the season.

Meanwhile, second-half goals from Diego and Alexander Madlung guided Wolfsburg to a 2-0 win over Stuttgart.

Mainz played host to Freiburg in a 0-0 stalemate, while the clash between Hoffenheim and Borussia Moenchengladbach also ended 0-0.
