Bayer Leverkusen kept the heat on Bayern Munich and Schalke at the top of the Bundesliga with a 4-2 win at home to Hamburg.
Stefan Kiessling netted twice, opening the scoring in the 22nd minute and making it 3-1 just after the hour mark.
Eren Derdiyok had restored Bayer's advantage in the 55th minute following Ze Roberto's equaliser (33).
David Rozehnal scored a second for Hamburg seven minutes from time to give it hope, but Gonzalo Castro re-established the hosts' two-goal cushion a minute later.
The win moved third-placed Bayer to within a point of Schalke and three of Bayern.
In the day's other game, Claudio Pizarro's 80th-minute winner gave Werder Bremen a 1-0 success at Hoffenheim to move the visitors a point behind fifth-placed Hamburg.
