Daniel explores options

Daniel explores options

Daniel's future at the Wellington Phoenix is unclear after he was given time to fly to Singapore to explore an offer.

The likeable Brazilian has been used mainly as a substitute by coach Ricki Herbert during the past two seasons.

So far this campaign he has made eight starts in 18 matches and Herbert confirmed on Wednesday the club had yet to put an offer in front of the 32-year-old midfielder.

"We haven't made a lot of players offers yet," added Herbert. "Our heads have been firmly concentrating on the finals series."

"Whilst players are probably looking for a bit more certainty and longevity in their careers it will probably be a couple of weeks until we get closer to something new."

Daniel signed with the Phoenix in 2007 and brought up his 100th match for the club against Newcastle Jets in January.

He was granted leave earlier this week to go to Singapore but will be part of Herbert's extended squad that leaves Wellington on Thursday for matches against Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC.

"Daniel has got his family to consider. He's got his future to consider, whether that's a year or two years in professional football," said Herbert.

"Whilst the Phoenix has been his home for a long period of time it's important that he is happy and he's making the right decisions."

"We've given him three days now to clear his head and see what he feels himself. Then we can make a call."
