Sydney FC veteran Steve Corica is set to announce his retirement days out from the Sky Blues' biggest match in four years.

The former Socceroo is expected to confirm this season will be his last at a press conference to be held at Sydney's Star City Casino on Wednesday afternoon.

It comes just five days before Sydney hosts league leader Melbourne in a match to decide the 2009/10 premiers, ensuring the 36-year-old receives an emotional farewell before what will be a big SFS crowd.

A foundation player with the club, Corica has played 103 games in the sky blue, scoring 24 goals including the winner in the inaugural A-League Grand Final in 2005/06.

He won 32 caps for Australian between 1993-2006, finding the back of the net on five occasions.

After stints in England with Leicester, Wolves and Walsall - and two seasons in Japan with Sanfreece - Corica joined Sydney FC for the first season of the A-League.

Corica is likely to take up a job with FC behind the scenes, possibly in a coaching capacity.

Team-mate John Aloisi may join him in retirement, the former Socceroos striker set to make a decision on his future after the finals series.
