A brace from striker Ruben Castro saw Real Betis move into 12th place in La Liga with a 2-0 away win over bottom club Real Zaragoza.
Betis entered the match just three points above the relegation zone, but they hit the front four minutes before the break at La Romareda when Castro latched onto a through ball from Jorge Molina and blasted a right-foot shot past Roberto Gago in the Zaragoza goal.
The 30-year-old former Spain under-21 international scored a second - his ninth league goal for the season - in the 68th minute with another tidy shot from the centre of the box to put the result beyond doubt.
It was the second league win in succession for Betis, while Zaragoza could not build on their 2-0 triumph over Espanyol in their last start and remain bottom of the Primera Division table, five points behind second-bottom Sporting Gijon as new boss Manolo Jimenez continues to try and turn their fortunes around.
Zaragoza visit Malaga on Saturday in their next match, while Betis host Getafe the same day.
