Former England boss Fabio Capello has hit back at reports suggesting he 'escaped' the country following his shock resignation on Wednesday.
The Italian quit as Three Lions manager following a meeting with the Football Association about comments he made regarding the stripping of John Terry as captain.
Reports in his homeland's media suggested the 65-year-old fled England following his decision, however he has quelled the rumour and stated a move back to management in Serie A is unlikely.
"I didn't escape from England, I left only because a misunderstanding. I was fine there, but sometimes you have to leave," he told Italian television show Striscia La Notizia in an interview due to be aired on Friday night.
"I will not return to Italy, I just want to relax now."
Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce will take charge of the full national side in their friendly game against the Netherlands on February 29.
The search for Capello's successor has begun and FA chairman David Bernstein has hinted at the preference would be for an Englishman to take the post.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has been established as the clear favourite and the preferred choice of the England players, already receiving the backing from the likes of Wayne Rooney.
Meanwhile, Capello showed his gratitude to the players he coached in his four years in charge and also thanked the fans for their support since his appointment in December 2007.
"I would like to thank all players, staff and Football Association for the professionalism they have shown during my years as manager of the English national team," he said.
"A very special thanks to all the supporters - they've always supported the team and me in our job. I wish all of them every success in achieving all their sporting goals."
