Capello: FA insulted me

02/08/2012 01:28:10 PM

Former England manager Fabio Capello has launched a stinging attack on the FA after dramatically resigning from his post.

Capello was furious after John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy without being consulted and has taken the step of walking away from his job just months before Euro 2012.

The experienced coach is well renowned for being strict in his methods and was far than impressed after Terry was stripped of the captaincy, leading him to feel his position had become untenable.

"They really insulted me and damaged my authority," Capello told italpress.

"What really hit me and forced me to take this decision was the fact the much-vaunted Anglo-Saxon sense of justice, as they are the first to claim that everyone is innocent until proven guilty."

"In Terry’s case, they gravely offended me and damaged my authority at the head of the England side, effectively creating a problem for the squad."

"I have never tolerated certain interference and crossing of lines, so it was easy for me to spot it and take my decision to leave."

The 65-year-old had been in charge of the England national team since December 2007 and was set to leave his role after the European Championships in Ukraine and Poland.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and former Russia and Turkey boss Guus Hiddink are thought to be the leading contenders to replace him.
