Blues stick with Terry

Chelsea stick with Terry

02/04/2012 02:15:40 AM

Andre Villas-Boas says John Terry will remain Chelsea captain despite the Football Association stripping him of the England armband.

Terry's removal from the position of England skipper follows the announcement he will face trial for allegedly racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand on July 9, eight days after the final of Euro 2012.

The defender's lawyer entered a plea of not guilty at West London Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The FA opted to remove him as captain on Friday, and there have been calls for Terry to be left out of the England squad altogether.

Villas-Boas, however, insisted Terry's position with Chelsea will not be affected, and made clear his disagreement with the decision taken by the governing body.

"It was the FA's decision," Villas-Boas said.

"I don't agree with it. John will continue as Chelsea captain."

Terry will miss Chelsea's English Premier League match at home to defending champions Manchester United on Sunday due to a knee injury.
