An Edin Dzeko-inspired Manchester City stormed to the top of the Premier League with a 5-1 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Dzeko lead the rout with four goals, with new signing Sergio Aguero also getting on the scoresheet and Younes Kaboul scoring a consolation for Spurs.
The potential of the City attack shone through in just the seventh minute as Samir Nasri and David Silva linked up masterfully, with the latter denied by Spurs gloveman Brad Friedel.
Gareth Bale should have given the hosts the lead after 26 minutes when Aaron Lennon picked him out at the back post following a clever exchange with Vedran Corluka, but the Welshman put his effort high and wide.
City took the lead in the 34th minute as Aguero and Nasri linked up well before the former Arsenal man played in a delightful cross for Dzeko to slot home from close range.
Spurs almost equalised just five minutes later as Bale drove in a volleyed cross with amazing precision but Peter Crouch’s header went wide of the top corner.
They were made to pay for the miss as City went down the other end and extended their lead through a sublime header from Dzeko, set up once again by a Nasri cross.
It took just under ten minutes for the first chance of the second half and it was Dzeko who came close as he headed towards goal from the edge of the box.
But the Bosnian international would not be denied his hat-trick and stroked home a Yaya Toure from close range in the 55th minute.
Roberto Mancini's men picked up their fourth after Nasri played Aguero through before the Argentine eased past Michael Dawson and placed his shot beyond Friedel.
Spurs nabbed a consolation with 24 minutes to go as Kaboul rose highest from a Rafael Van der Vaart corner and buried a header past Joe Hart in the City goal.
Dzeko scored his fourth seconds from the final whistle with a world-class strike from outside the penalty area, the 25-year-old curling his left-footed effort into the far corner of Friedel's goal.
