Frantisek Straka takes over the helm as North Queensland head coach after Ian Ferguson moved on at the closure of the Fury’s inaugural season in the A-League. Straka played most notably for Sparta Prague and won 35 caps for the former Czechoslovakian national team. He then went on to coach numerous club sides including Sparta Prague (2004) and Wacker Tirol (2006-07) before a one-game stint in charge of the Czech Republic national team in 2009, which culminated in a 1-0 friendly win over Malta. Despite little success at club level, Straka is regarded as an inspirational figure and will hope to lift the club from its 7th placed finish last season, regarded by many as a success.
