Miron Bleiberg was born in Israel but forged his managerial reputation in Australia, initially in the NSL with clubs such as Melbourne Croatia, Heidelberg United and the Brisbane Strikers and then as the inaugural coach of the Queensland Roar. Always outspoken in the media, Bleiberg is renowned for backing up his brashness with an attacking style of play out on the pitch. The Roar just missed the finals in his first year in charge and were renowned as the A-League's great entertainers. But the wins and the goals dried up in season two and by mid-November, Bleiberg had lost the passion, resigning to be replaced by Frank Farina. But as soon as it become apparent that the Gold Coast would have an A-League franchise, it was clear that Bleiberg would coach them having repeatedly backed the introduction of a new A-League side. Bleiberg also became the club's director of football and in his first season in charge took the club to third in the league. Unfortunately, Gold Coast bowed out with a shock penalty-shootout loss to Newcastle Jets at Skilled Stadium in the first week of the finals.
