Dellacqua through, Guccione out

19/08/2008 1:29 PM

Australian Casey Dellacqua has won her first-round match at the Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven but Chris Guccione bowed out in the men's draw.

Dellacqua's 6-3 6-1 victory over Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano has set up a clash with top seed Anna Chakvedtadze in the second round.

Guccione, who has won only two of his past 11 matches, suffered a 7-5 6-3 loss to world No.67 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Others to advance included top seed Fernando Verdasco, American pair Robby Ginepri and Wayne Odesnik, and Frenchman Arnaud Clement.

In the women's draw fifth seed Patty Schnyder won but eighth seed Dominika Cibulkova from Slovakia retired due to heat illness after losing the first set 7-6 (9-7) to Danish star Caroline Wozniacki.

She was joined later in the day by world No.21 Nicole Vaidisova, who was beaten in straight sets by seventh seed Alize Cornet 6-3 7-6 (10-8).
