Greg Murphy, the fastest man ever at Bathurst, is challenging all V8 Supercar drivers to beat his 2003 qualifying lap record.
Murphy, currently with Sprint Gas Racing, posted a sensational two minutes 06.8594 second lap time during the 2003 top-10 shootout although that mark was almost beaten last year by fellow Holden driver Mark Skaife.
"With the money being spent down pit lane I would expect my record to be beaten," Murphy said on Monday.
"There's a lot of talk that it can be beaten, but actions speak louder than words."
"(But) records are made to be broken, I'm under no illusions there."
"The track was fast in 2003, having just been re-surfaced, but I am actually surprised that my lap time has not been broken already."
Murphy is teaming up with Jason Richards in the Sprint Gas Racing Commodore at Bathurst for this weekend's Super Cheap Auto 1000.
The Fujitsu Racing Team of Jason Bright and Adam Macrow, meanwhile, will be taking on the Mount Panorama endurance event with their sights set on victory.
A number of upgrades have been made to the Fujitsu Ford over the past two months and everything is falling into place, according to Bright.
"On the technical side we have made improvements to the engine, transmission and suspension. Across the board that has provided significant gains," Bright said.
"Last year we nearly pulled off a win at Bathurst. This year we have improved as a group and that has me even more confident going to Mount Panorama."
Confidence is also high within the IRWIN Racing camp as Marcus Marshall and Matt Halliday head into the Bathurst 1000.
A range of improvements have been made to the IRWIN Ford heading into the race, but it's the overall strength of the package that has Marshall excited heading to Mount Panorama.
"The whole team has been improving throughout the year and with some extra items coming online for Bathurst we expect to be challenging for a spot in the top 10," he said.
