Blyth puts pressure on Liang

Blyth puts pressure on Liang

Australia's Adam Blyth cut Liang Wen-chong's lead to one stroke after the third round of the Hero Honda Indian Open on Saturday.

Liang carded a course record 60 - the best ever 18-hole score in relation to par at an Asian Tour event - on Thursday with 12 birdies in a bogey-free round to establish a five-shot lead which he consolidated on Friday with a 71 at the Delhi Golf Club.

But a second successive 71 took Liang to 14-under 202 overall and Blyth became the nearest challenger with a six-under-par 66 to go to 13 under.

Australia's Unho Park also hit a 66 to move to 12 under.

Liang, last year's Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, carded four birdies against a bogey and a double bogey in the third round.

"I feel good about my game but this is the first time I've been in this position leading for so long, so it's something new to me," Liang said.

"The holes here are tough and it's always a challenge. I wasn't playing safe but at the same time I can't really be aggressive here. Adam played well but there are still 18 holes left tomorrow so we shall see what happens."

Blyth thought Liang would walk away with the tournament after his opening-day exploits, but is delighted to be in contention going into Sunday's final round.

"It's nice to see my putts drop today," Blyth said.

"But I'm surprised with where I am at the moment. After the first two rounds, I thought Liang was going to run away with it but now I see I have a chance. I played well and kept it in play which was the key for me.:

"I hope for solid putting when I head out on my final charge on Sunday."
