Manchester United's dominance of the English Premier League just shows no signs of abating.
The Red Devils now look set to claim a tenth EPL title in just 16 seasons after not only ending the title hopes of a fading Arsenal on Sunday but then watching second-placed Chelsea self-destruct against lowly Wigan overnight.
The Blues, who could have closed the gap on United to just three points with a victory and kept the pressure well and truly on Sir Alex Ferguson's team (particularly with Manchester United still having to visit Chelsea on April 26), instead conceded an injury-time equaliser to the 15th-placed Latics.
As a result Manchester United now finds itself five points plus goal difference, which means effectively six points, ahead of Chelsea with just four matches to play.
That is simply too big a gap for the Blues to make up and even if Chelsea - which first faces a difficult away game against fifth-placed Everton - beats Manchester United on April 26 it will still find itself two points adrift in second place.
Indeed a far more likely scenario is United will clinch the title that day by ending Chelsea's four year unbeaten run in the EPL at Stamford Bridge.
While Chelsea and Arsenal limp to the finish line this season, Manchester United just seems to get stronger as evidenced by the fact it was able to beat Roma - which is in second place in Italy's Serie A - in the second leg of last week's European Champions' League quarter-final despite leaving superstar Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench.
After not winning the title for three years, as first Arsenal saluted in 2004 and then Chelsea ended a 50 year drought by winning in 2005 and 2006, United now looks set to win back-to-back titles to show it is once again the dominant team in England.
And given it is favourite to also lift Europe's biggest prize as well, 2008 could well be almost on a par with 1999 - when United won the treble of the EPL title, the Champions League and the FA Cup - as the greatest year in United's proud history.
Right now there is just no team in England capable of matching United over the nine month marathon journey that is the EPL season.
Chelsea has never recovered from the shock decision to replace its most successful ever manager Jose Mourinho earlier this season with the little-known Avram Grant.
Grant's team selections have been queried on countless occasions since and his decision to make seven changes against Wigan on Monday night backfired spectacularly as did his equally strange decision to leave his most creative player Joe Cole on the bench, until it was too late, during Chelsea's shock 2-1 loss to London rivals Tottenham in February's League Cup final.
And while Chelsea still has a European semi-final against Liverpool to look forward to, a first season without a trophy in four years is looking a distinct possibility - particularly with Manchester United or Barcelona to come in the final even if the Blues finally succeed in beating Liverpool having failed against them twice in the last three years at the semi-final stage.
As for Arsenal, the team's lack of spending on star players compared to Manchester United and Chelsea is beginning to really hit home.
It is now three years since the Gunners last lifted a major trophy and they simply don't have the depth in either attack or defence to last the distance with the Red Devils or Chelsea while neither of their goalkeepers in Manuel Almunia or Jens Lehmann is in the same class as United's Edwin Van Der Sar or Chelsea's Petr Cech.
The shocking injury to star striker Eduardo against Birmingham on February 23 proved the turning point in Arsenal's season as the Gunners surrendered a five point lead at the top of the table from the beginning of that month - highlighting their inability to cover the absence of star players.
And with the other clubs led by Liverpool - which continues to excel in Europe but underachieve in the EPL where it has not won the title since 1990 after winning 13 titles between 1964 and 1990 - well off the pace, it's hard to see United's dominance ending any time soon
