PSV keen to keep Culina

22/07/2008 4:19 PM

PSV Eindhoven coach Huub Stevens has expressed his desire to keep Jason Culina amid fears the Australian midfielder will leave the Dutch champions.

The 27-year-old has refused to pen a new contract at the Philips Stadion, meaning he will become a free agent when his current deal expires next year.

PSV may, therefore, be better off cashing in on him now, but Stevens wants to keep Culina in Eindhoven.

"I don't want to lose him," Stevens told the Eindhovens Dagblad newspaper.

The former FC Twente man has struggled to hold down a regular place in the PSV starting line-up although Stevens could opt to deploy Culina as an emergency right-back.

When discussing the problematic right-back situation, Stevens admitted: "That part of the team is still weakened because of the injury of Jan Kromkamp."
