Moore bows out a winner

Socceroos' veteran Craig Moore has confirmed his retirement from international football following Australia's convincing 3-0 victory over Qatar in its first World Cup qualifier.

It was widely expected that Queensland Roar skipper Moore, the only locally based player to be included in new coach Pim Verbeek's starting XI, would announce his retirement following this match at the Telstra Dome.

A brilliant display by Australia, particularly during the first half, led to speculation Moore may re-consider hanging up his boots, but the former Rangers skipper has confirmed his retirement following this encounter.

"It's always a sad time finishing up but I want to go out on my own terms," Moore told Foxsports after the match.

Despite only having 48 hours between appearances, Moore will start his post-international life by captaining the Queensland Roar in the second leg of the A-League's minor semi-final against Sydney FC on Friday night.
