Sydney striker Alex Brosque has celebrated his 24th birthday in grand style with a dramatic brace to earn his side a 3-3 draw against Perth Glory in a thrilling Hyundai A-League encounter at Members Equity Stadium on Friday night.

Perth looked home and hosed after taking a 3-1 lead in the 69th minute following second-half goals to Jamie Harnwell, James Robinson and Mitchell Prentice, but a 72nd minute strike to Patrick and a goal with the final kick of the match to Brosque earned Sydney the valuable point.

The draw moves Sydney into the top four for the time being, although Queensland or Wellington could move above them with a win in their respective matches.

Perth, meanwhile, sits dead last on the table with just five points to its name and the season fading fast.

Perth coach Ron Smith said he was heartbroken not to claim the club’s first win of the season.

"You do feel like you've lost the game even though it's a draw," he said.

"I liken it to a heavy defeat. To be so close to getting an incredible three points and not getting it is disappointing. In the end I think we just panicked a bit, and it cost us."

Sydney coach Branko Culina said he was disappointed his side fell 3-1 behind but was pleased with the fightback.

"We didn't play well today but we showed a tremendous amount of character and courage," he said.

"We are disappointed we let a 1-0 lead become a 3-1 deficit … but then we showed what team we are capable of being by pegging back Perth and getting a draw."

"It shows we've got a fair way to go but we've got terrific courage and great commitment, so I must congratulate the players on that."

Smith made an astonishing six changes to his starting line-up - five of which were forced due to international call-ups - from the side that drew 0-0 with Adelaide last week.

Sydney was also without a number of key personnel, with veteran Steve Corica suspended and midfielder Ruben Zadkovich, defender Mark Milligan and striker Adam Casey away with the Qantas Olyroos.

The Glory did the bulk of the attacking early with Robinson proving to be a nuisance in Sydney's defence.

With Nick Rizzo feeding Harnwell and Robinson quality ball, it seemed just a matter of time before the Glory would break through Sydney's defence.

But it was Sydney who broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Jamie Coyne failed to clear a ball in defence and Brosque pounced on the opportunity.

The Sydney marksman bounced off the Glory defender, sprinted into the box and drilled the ball to the left of a diving Perth keeper Tommi Tomich and into the back of the net.

Perth was back on level terms eight minutes after the half-time break when Dino Djulbic headed down Coyne's lofted pass into the path of Harnwell, who calmly volleyed the ball home from eight yards out.

Robinson snatched the lead for the Glory six minutes later when he latched on to a beautifully-weighted through-ball from Coyne and drilled it past Sydney keeper Clint Bolton.

And when Prentice's free kick from outside of the box found its way around the wall and crashed into the back of the net, the Glory held a 3-1 lead.

However, there was another twist to the tale to come, with Sydney striker Patrick
