Fenerbahce hopes of repeating last season's surprise quarter-final appearance in the Champions League took another blow as it was held to a nil-all draw against Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night.
The Turkish giants have just a point from two games after it followed up their 3-1 defeat to Porto with another error-strewn performance.
Indeed it could have been even worse for the hosts had the Kiev frontline been able to capitalise on their early dominance.
It was not until after the break that the Turks even looked like creating a meaningful chance of their own and too often striker Daniel Guiza was left isolated up front.
Fenerbahce has made a far from impressive start to its domestic league, losing three of its opening five games, and its fragile confidence was evident as Kiev carved them open down the left-hand side early on.
Taras Mykhalyk skipped past Gokhan Gonul on the byline and only a fierce last-ditch challenge from Edu Dracena denied him a shooting chance.
Oleksandr Aliev then fired into the side-netting from a tight angle after the visitors had worked a neat routine from the resulting corner.
Goalkeeper Volkan Demirel almost gifted the Ukrainians the lead after 30 minutes when he rushed out of his area to intercept a long ball, but instead horribly sliced two attempted clearances and could only looked on as Ismael Bangoura volleyed over from wide on the right.
The Kiev striker had another sight of goal when played in down the left channel, but pulled out of the challenge as Volkan came out to meet him.
Fenerbahce showed little of the flowing football which coach Luis Aragones had Spain playing at Euro 2008 and only threatened when Edu headed Alex's free-kick well over.
And its first-half was summed up when Roberto Carlos was booked for dissent after being flagged offside.
The home side came out a different side for the second half though and Alex dragged a left-footed shot wide narrowly of a post in the opening minutes.
Kiev stopper Stanislav Bogush then produced a decent double save to deny Guiza, after a great turn had given him a shooting chance from a tight angle, and then Emre Belozoglu's follow-up header.
Bogush did even better to deny summer signing Guiza in the 77th minute, racing off his line to save at the Spaniard's feet when he was through on goal.
Substitute Maxim Shatskikh blazed high and wide for Kiev as he looked to add the finishing touch to a counter-attack late on, while Colin Kazim-Richards also fired wide when well-placed, but neither side could make the breakthrough.
