A glittering 115 from Chris Rogers and 5-65 from Brett Dorey has left Victoria 8-238 and one run behind Western Australia's 239 at stumps on day two of the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield match at the WACA Ground.
The Bushrangers looked to be cruising during a 122-run stand between Rogers and Cameron White, but lost 5-27 to fall to 8-215 before Matthew Wade (16) and Peter Siddle (13) took them safely to stumps and within sight of first innings points.
In his first match against his former side, Rogers looked right at home back on the WACA pitch scoring his 30th first-class century and second for Victoria.
His knock came in just 132 balls and included 19 boundaries and three sixes
Only Dorey (5-65) and Steve Magoffin (2-47) troubled Rogers at all, as he took a real liking to Arron Crawford, Trent Kelly and David Bandy. Bandy received the severest treatment going for four boundaries in one over to take Rogers from 83 to 99.
The next over he hit a cover drive for four off Magoffin to bring up a terrific century off 121 balls. He raced to 115 before nicking a pull shot to keeper Luke Ronchi off Magoffin.
Victoria began the day finishing off the Warriors tail and dismissing them for 239 before rain forced the players off the field twice prior to lunch after the Bushrangers got to the crease.
Nick Jewell (two) and Rob Quiney (five) fell early to leave them 2-44 and following a delay of 112 minutes after lunch due to rain, David Hussey joined them when Dorey had him caught behind for eight.
White and Rogers then put on 122 for the fourth wicket but Magoffin had Andrew McDonald caught at first slip by Adam Voges two balls after getting Rogers out to have the Bushrangers' 5-188.
White and Wade put on 22 before White was caught at point off Dorey for 47 and Damien Wright caught behind the next delivery.
Pattinson then had to face the hat-trick ball and survived but was out for five shortly after when caught behind mistiming a pull off Crawford.
The Bushrangers still required 25 more for first innings points with just two wickets in hand but Wade and Siddle almost did enough by getting to stumps.
Earlier, Wright picked up Kelly (five) and Dorey (17) to have the Warriors all out for 239 after they began the day on 224. It was the first time a team batting first has made it into day two this year at the WACA.
Events of the opening day remained the talking point throughout the day.
Victorian quick Nannes was ordered out of the attack after two straight beamers in his opening over after taking a wicket with his first ball, WA opener Liam Davis had his head cut open by a Siddle bouncer, Warriors skipper North made a century and 18-year-old Pattinson claimed 3-43 on debut.
Pattinson was the pick of the Victorian bowlers with his figures coming from 20 overs, with Siddle claiming 2-71 and Wright 3-51. Wicket-keeper Wade also had a good time of it, taking five catches.
