Redbacks back on track

11/11/2008 6:47 PM

A defiant unbeaten 118-run stand between Michael Klinger and Cameron Borgas has South Australia in the hunt for first innings points at stumps on day two in its Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia at Adelaide Oval.

The Redbacks scored 71 runs in the final session to be 2-146 heading into the third day and require a further 164 runs to surpass the Warriors' first innings total of 309.

Borgas is unbeaten on 60 from 117 balls while former Bushranger Klinger, who's been in top form since crossing the border, has made 52 from 132 deliveries.

The duo came together with the score at 2-28 and slowly but surely rebuilt the innings. It wasn't explosive cricket but they did play some attractive strokes in a positive conclusion to day two for the home side.

Brett Dorey was the only successful Warriors bowler, taking the wicket of James Smith and running out his opening partner Tom Cooper after lunch.

Dorey has figures of 1-22 off 11 overs.

The towering bowler had Smith caught at second slip by Marcus North for 15 while his strong throw from the outfield minutes later ended Cooper's afternoon.

Cooper hit a ball into the leg side field and was off for a second run before being sent back by Klinger. Dorey's throw was collected by Steve Magoffin who whipped the bails off at the bowler's end.

Earlier in the day, the Warriors added 76 runs to their overnight score before being bowled out.

Day-one century maker Wes Robinson added 32 more runs to his tally and was dismissed by Aaron O'Brien for 141.

He faced 340 balls and hit 10 boundaries during his 447-minute stay at the crease.

Magoffin (26 runs) and Dorey (19) provided good support for the opening batsman while Trent Kelly was one not out at the end of the innings.

Dan Cullen didn't add to his wicket tally but still had the best bowling figures with 3-91 off 41 overs.

O'Brien took two wickets in the morning session while Peter George and Mark Cleary also picked up a couple of scalps.

On day one, Robinson's maiden first-class century was the highlight in an otherwise disappointing batting performance by Western Australia.

Robinson had been well supported by the aggressive Luke Ronchi with the pair posting a 74-run sixth-wicket partnership before the latter was caught behind for 49.
