Centurion Chris Rogers feels he proved himself to new team-mates after scoring his maiden ton for Victoria in a one-sided Weet Bix Sheffield Shield encounter at the SCG.
Rogers grafted his way to 159 as the Bushrangers took a stranglehold on proceedings, leading NSW by 70 runs with seven first innings wickets and two days in hand.
The former Western Australian opener, who played one Test for the national side in January, was out in the second last over of the day.
But he was overjoyed to bring up his first century for his adopted state following an acrimonious split with the Warriors during the off-season.
"It's always a relief to get the first one out of the way so I'm pretty happy at the moment," Rogers said after stumps.
"To get a score like that (is important). People see what you can do."
"I'm just so happy I've contributed to the side."
"I've really enjoyed the month and a half I've had with Victoria."
"It's been great – the team's been fantastic to me – and I'm really happy with the decision I made."
With Matthew Hayden's Test career coming to a close, Rogers is eyeing the soon-to-be vacant position at the top of the Australian order.
Desperate not to be known as one-Test wonder, the compact opener believes he has plenty of work to do to convince selectors he is worthy of a recall.
Asked where he thought he stood in the pecking order, Rogers replied: "Probably a long way off."
"It’s hard to tell but I suppose you've just got to go out and get runs like 'Kato' (Simon Katich) did last year."
"That's all I can do."
The Victorians will enter day three holding all the aces against a NSW side down on troops and confidence.
The Bushrangers will aim to bat through the best part of two sessions before chasing outright victory.
"It's one of the wickets that if you set yourself to bat a long time it's possible," Rogers said.
"They (NSW) bowled alright in patches."
