Proteas edge past Bangladesh

Dale Steyn and Johan Botha took two wickets apiece to help South Africa beat Bangladesh by 12 runs in a rain-affected Twenty20 match in Johannesburg.

The hosts made 118 having been put into bat by Bangladesh, AB de Villiers top-scoring with 36 as two rain breaks reduced the innings to 14 overs a side.

Bangladesh was set a victory target of 122 after the Duckworth/Lewis method was applied, but they failed miserably with the bat, reaching 8-109 from their 14 overs.

Only four players - Tamim Iqbal (25), Mohammad Ashraful (21), Naeem Islam (15) and Mushfiqur Rahim (12) - made it to double figures as the South Africa bowlers took control.

Earlier Abdur Razzak took four wickets for 16 to reduce the hosts to 7-118 in a rain-interrupted innings.

Syed Rasel got the ball rolling when he removed dangerman Herschelle Gibbs in the fifth over for 18, but Razzak grabbed the next two wickets to dismiss Loots Bosman (28) and Justin Ontong (six) before Jean-Paul Duminy edged Shakib Al Hasan behind for six.

Al Hasan then bowled Albie Morkel (six) before Razzak halted South Africa's momentum by bowling Gibbs through the gate.

Razzak grabbed the last wicket to remove Botha (one) and limit the hosts to a relatively meagre total but the tourists' batting did not live up to their bowling attack and they came up short of the target.
