Australia has taken an unassailable 2-0 series lead after cruising to an eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second game of the Commonwealth Bank Series at TIO Stadium on Wednesday.
Set a modest 118 for victory, Australia achieved the target for the loss of just two wickets, with Shaun Marsh posting an impressive half-century in the run chase.
Marsh finished with an unbeaten 69 as he and Mike Hussey (eight not out) guided the hosts to victory in the 23rd over.
It wasn't a flawless knock from Marsh – he was dropped at first slip by Alok Kapali off the bowling of Mashrafe Mortaza in the 18th over – but he did manage nine boundaries and one six in his innings and was particularly harsh on anything short.
Marsh and fellow opener Shane Watson put on 73 for the first wicket, before left-arm orthodox spinner Shakib Al Hasan came into the attack to take two quick wickets.
Al Hasan trapped Watson plumb lbw for 29 in the 13th over, before dismissing skipper Michael Clarke for just one in his next over.
Clarke danced down the wicket in an attempt to loft Al Hasan down the ground, but he did not judge the flight of the ball well and ended up being stumped by keeper Dhiman Ghosh.
But Mike Hussey strode to the crease to join Marsh and the pair took few risks from that point on to ensure Australia registered a comfortable victory.
Earlier, Australia's bowling line-up was at its devastating best as they dismissed Bangladesh for a miserly 117 in the 37th over.
Nathan Bracken and Mitchell Johnson did the early damage, before Cameron White and Stuart Clark cleaned up the tail with ease.
Johnson finished the innings with an impressive 3-17 from 6.1 overs, but his display may have been overshadowed by a beautiful spell of new-ball bowling from Bracken.
Bracken (2-16 off five overs) swung the ball both ways and had the Bangladeshi batsmen in trouble right from the opening ball of the match when he took the wicket of Tamim Iqbal.
Junaid Siddique (21) and Al Hasan (19) were the only Bangladeshi batsmen to offer any resistance early, although Ghosh took a liking to the leg-spin of White and compiled a valuable 30 late in the innings.
