Australian diver Melissa Wu has qualified safely for Thursday night's final of the Women's 10m Platform, though team-mate Alexandra Croak missed out.
Wu finished eighth in the morning's semi-final at the Water Cube on 331.35 points behind the No.1 qualifier, Chen Ruolin of China (444.60).
Sixteen-year-old Wu had been travelling consistently with scores in the 70s until her fourth dive, a back three-and-a-half somersault with tuck, which attracted a score of only 34.65.
Wu botched the same dive in Wednesday's qualifying and acknowledged afterwards that she would need to get it right to be in medal contention.
"I've been working hard on it," Wu said. "It just comes down to the moment and I tried my best."
"It's very nerve-wracking - I know I can do better."
After being fourth in the preliminaries, Croak finished last in the semi-final field of 18 with 250.30 points.
"I don't know if it was so much pressure, it was just expectation on myself and I didn't handle it very well," she said.
China has won all six Olympic diving gold medals awarded so far in Beijing with two finals - the Women's and Men's Platforms - yet to be decided.
