The Los Angeles Clippers have signed point-guard Baron Davis to a multi-year contract to soften the blow of losing forwards Elton Brand and Corey Maggette.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but according to various media reports, the former UCLA star and Los Angeles native agreed to a five-year contract worth $65 million.
A two-time All-Star, Davis opted out of the final year of his contract with the Golden State Warriors to return to Southern California and should solidify the Clippers' backcourt with Los Angeles coming off a dismal 23-59 campaign.
Last season, Davis joined Allen Iverson, LeBron James and Chris Paul as the only players in the NBA to average more than 20 points and seven assists per game. Davis contributed 21.8 points and 7.6 assists for the Warriors.
Entering his 10th season, Davis has career averages of 17.1 points, 7.2 assists and 4.1 rebounds per contest.
Davis was the cornerstone of the Charlotte Hornets' franchise until he was traded to the Warriors on February 24, 2005.
In 2007, he helped lead Golden State to a first-round upset of the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks.
The signing of Davis comes after Brand turned down a five-year, $70 million offer from the Clippers to sign a five-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers worth a reported $82 million.
Maggette also opted out of his contract last week and agreed a multi-year contract with the Warriors.
Golden State did not disclose terms, but the Los Angeles Times reported last week that nine-year veteran Maggette agreed to a five-year contract worth $50 million.
