the Cats any time soon - it would not be a surprise if Fox was again sounded out about taking over at the Demons by the new board.
Former Melbourne chief executive Cameron Schwab - who recently quit Fremantle to return to Victoria - would be another leading contender.
And Kennett had a message to the Demons' board when it comes time to appoint the club's ninth chief executive in just over a decade.
"If I was president of a struggling club I would want to make sure my CEO understood football - not the playing of football but the administration of football - because it saves you so much time," he said.
Later in the day, Stynes issued a statement, confirming McNamee's sacking and noting that he had been appointed by the previous board based on their vision and direction for the club.
"Since the appointment of the new board, we are conducting a thorough review of all aspects of the club's business," Stynes said.
"After extensive discussions with Paul, we have determined that a new CEO will be required to execute this board’s plans to take our club into the future."
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul for his work over the last three months, particularly with regard to our plans for the Casey region, and our ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with the MCC."
Stynes said Melbourne director Peter Spargo will act as interim CEO until a full-time appointment is made.
