Captain Cameron White has heralded Rob Quiney as the ultimate team man after his 64-ball century spearheaded Victoria to a 67-run Ryobi One-Day Cup victory over South Australia.
Quiney smashed the fifth fastest one-day domestic ton in just 64 balls as Victoria cruised to a 67-run win at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.
The left-hander piloted a 171-run fifth-wicket partnership with his skipper to steer his side to 6-301 at the end of 45 overs.
Quiney belted nine boundaries and five sixes while White smashed five fours and three sixes to completely outclass the SA bowlers.
White said Quiney's match-winning performance was just rewards for a hard working team player.
"He's probably a best team player, he's a great team man so it's great to see him get some results," White said.
He's probably been our best players in four-day cricket this year and it's good to see him convert in the one-day format as well. I'm very happy for him."
White is aware of what Quiney is capable of, describing the left-hander as a sweet and powerful striker of the ball.
"He's done that before for us in one-day cricket about two or three seasons ago," he said.
"There was one unbelievable innings he played for us against New South Wales full strength at the MCG and he batted middle order."
"I think he got 80 or 90 off a similar number of balls as today. He's such a sweet hitter of the ball and when he swings the bat it generally hits the middle of the bat and he can get it over the fence," he said.
The result was a reversal of the corresponding split-innings match in Geelong a fortnight ago when SA ran out five-wicket victors after Victoria had claimed first-innings honours.
White admitted Victoria started poorly but said removing Dan Christian cheaply was crucial in restricting SA's run chase.
"It was convincing in the end, but it never feels like that when you're playing the game I guess," he said.
"We didn't start so well and all the momentum was probably with South Australia going into the break. It was almost a complete reversal of the game we played down in Geelong."
"We got the one point then stuffed it up from there. Tonight was a bit like that I guess so it was a pleasing result. Dan is obviously in a great vein of form at the moment so it was a big wicket that one," White said.
