Watto Lotto: What you think about Shane Watson

Shane Watson

As usual Watson looked the goods as he made a start before failing to turn that into a big score, falling at 52 as he was trapped in front attempting to sweep.

Over the last few matches he’s played for Australia, whenever Watson – never the most popular figure in the team, especially after the homework-gate issues – was dismissed for a lowly score it sparked torrents of abuse on Twitter.

Indeed it seems that Watson is very much the player you love to hate out there.

Former skipper Border probably summed up the nation’s feeling towards the frustrating all-rounder when he wrote in his News Corp column on Saturday morning.

“Unfortunately, Watto has teased us a lot with the bat and he did it again on Boxing Day. He looked set for a big century but was LBW again,” Border wrote.

“ not quite sure why he needed to be sweeping a ball that was hitting the stumps, when he could have been hitting straight down the ground and picking up ones and twos.

“The incredibly frustrating thing about Watto is that we all know the talent is there. And that is why he is still playing Test cricket for Australia.

“To be honest, I’m not sure what Watto’s problems have been in fulfilling the huge talent we all know he has. But I do get the feeling that he tends to plant his front foot and it goes to the same place all the time.”

When we asked you yesterday your thoughts on Watson as he came out to bat with Australia in trouble early, this was the response.

Judy’s opinion was very much in the minority after Watson’s dismissal. These were some of the nicer comments, though.
