Victoria to appeal Matthew Wade ban

Details of the appeal are still to be confirmed.

The Bushrangers captain and fringe Test wicketkeeper was suspended for this week's Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia for 'creating of a long valley within the protected area'.

Umpires Ian Lock and Sam Nogajski determined that Wade had tampered with the pitch during Victoria's outright win at Blundstone Arena.

It is not clear whether the wicketkeeper/batsman was warned before he was officially cited for breaching rule 42 of the Laws of Cricket which bans the unnatural wear and tear of a pitch.

Wade denied Cricket Australia's charge and moved to have the matter heard before a full disciplinary hearing led by match referee Daryl Harper who upheld the guilty verdict which was announced on Sunday.

The alleged incident happened at the same time Wade reminded national selectors of his batting prowess with a century in the first innings.

Australia named veteran Brad Haddin, 36, as wicketkeeper for this week's first Test against England.

However Wade, 25, is not without a chance of regaining his place and adding to his 12 Tests some time during this summer's Ashes.
