What did they do last time?

Australia bounced back from a seven-wicket loss in the series opener at Adelaide Oval with their own seven-wicket triumph in Game 2 at the MCG on Friday night.

Things you need to know

Australia are missing Test players Mitchell Johnson, David Warner, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc but Shane Watson is in the side after overcoming an ankle injury that ruled him out of the Test series against Pakistan. The all-rounder is in fine nick after hitting 47 off 36 and 30 off 23 in the first two games. The bowlers set up the win in Game 2, with James Faulkner (3-25), leggie Cameron Boyce (2-11), boom youngster Pat Cummins (1-11) and Doug Bollinger (1-23) all impressive in Melbourne.

South Africa have also rested several stars from this series including regular T20 captain Faf du Plessis as well as Test and one-day captains, Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers. Rilee Rossouw blasted the Proteas to victory in Game 1 while skipper JP Duminy (49 off 51) played a lone hand for the visitors in Game 2. Wayne Parnell (2-17) was the pick of the Proteas' bowlers in Melbourne while Imran Tahir is a quality tweaker and should find the conditions in Sydney more to his liking.

Reason to watch

Paceman Pat Cummins is a superstar and has been superb in the first two games. Let's hope his body can hold together so we can all enjoy his work for the next decade or so.

Reason to turn away

Don't turn away, the series is on the line and the cricket's back on the box.

Say what

"The performance with the ball today was unbelievable, that's as good a Twenty20 bowling as I've seen. I thought we bowled to the conditions really well, used our pace and Cameron Boyce, on a wicket that doesn't traditionally spin a hell of a lot was unbelievable today and deserved his wickets and deserve man-of-the-match I think," – Australian skipper Aaron Finch on his side's emphatic win in Melbourne.

"We were outplayed in all forms of the game today. There's a lot of learning that we can take out of today and we know that we need to come up with something drastic for us to come back on Sunday," – JP Duminy concedes the visitors have their work cut out to seal the series in Game 3.

Final instructions

The honours are even heading to Sydney and both sides will be confident they can win the series decider. Australia dominated Game 2 on a bouncy MCG deck but the wicket at ANZ Stadium will be a lot slower and could suit the South Africans. We'll tip the hosts to get home in a close one but not with any great confidence.
