MORE:  Video - Voges' freakish catch Anderson rips through disappointing Aussies

It was a day to remember for James Anderson and England at Edgbaston as Australia were skittled for just 136 on day one of the third Ashes Test.

Anderson took 6-47 as the tourists were emphatically brought back down to earth after they levelled the series with such a dominant display of their own at Lord's.

Rain brought a premature end to the action in the evening session on Wednesday as the hosts finished on 133-3, with Ian Bell going some way to silencing his critics with a fluent 53 on his home ground before giving away his wicket.

Here is a summary of stats from day one, provided by Opta:

- James Anderson recorded his best Ashes bowling figures, taking 6-47, his fourth-best analysis against any side.

- Australia failed to reach 150 in their opening innings of a Test for only the seventh time this century.

- Chris Rogers (52) has passed 50 in nine of his last 11 Test Innings, but reached 100 just once in this run, falling in the 50s five times.

- Michael Clarke (10) has recorded only one half-century in his last 14 Test innings.

- Alastair Cook (34) has failed to get more than 34 runs in eight of his 10 Test innings at Edgbaston.

- Nathan Lyon (2-3) has now taken a wicket in 16 of the last 17 innings he has bowled in; he failed to take any in four of his first seven in Test cricket.

- Ian Bell has reached 50 runs in four of his last six Test innings at Edgbaston but has failed to reach 100 in any of them.

- Cook has had six different opening partners since Andrew Strauss' retirement - of those, only Jonathan Trott (12) has a lower batting average than Adam Lyth (23.3).
