Haris Sohail suffered a shock in his Christchurch hotel room when he was awoken by what he believes was a ghostly being.
The Pakistan all-rounder claims he was disturbed by his bed being shaken, and subsequently called the team management to ask for assistance.
Pakistan are in New Zealand as part of their preparations for the upcoming Cricket World Cup, with their first match to come against India on February 15.
Reports in the Pakistan media suggested Sohail was "traumatised" and had been unable to train as a result, although team manager Maveed Akram Cheeva believes a fever may have caused Sohail to hallucinate.
A spokesman for the Rydges Latimer Christchurch hotel said there was "no active ghost".
"It's hard to believe," he said.
"They [Pakistan management] told me it was only a nightmare.
"I spoke with a team physiotherapist and other people on the team.
"He [Sohail] didn't come to me but they wanted him to move rooms. He's been sleeping in another room for about two nights now."
Having recovered from his encounter, Sohail featured in Tuesday's tour match against New Zealand Board President's XI.
However, a nervy knock of six from 25 deliveries and figures of 0-27 from four overs with the ball may come back to haunt the 26-year-old when World Cup places are up for consideration.
