Australia continued to dominate their first Ashes warm-up match with Kent as the irrepressible Steve Smith scored a century and Mitchell Johnson impressed with the ball.

Having ended the first day of the four-day match at Canterbury on 348-3, the tourists moved on to 507-8 in their first innings before declaring.

Kent struggled to deal with Australia's potent attack in reply, Johnson ending the day with figures of 3-42 as the hosts made it to stumps on 203-5.

Smith, who had started the day on 71 not out, advanced to 111 off 153 balls before retiring to allow his team-mates some time in the middle.

Johnson was unbeaten on 32 when captain Michael Clarke called for the declaration.

And the left-arm paceman wasted little time in making an impact with the ball, trapping opener Daniel Bell-Drummond for a duck in the first over.

Sam Northeast (25) and Ben Harmison (5) also fell to Johnson, although former England batsman Robert Key made 87 before succumbing to spinner Fawad Ahmed (1-59).

Kent will resume day three with England limited-overs international Sam Billings (24 not out) and Adam Ball (21 no) at the crease.
