Marsh, Warner dominate in Tour match

Shaun Marsh and Shane Watson staked their claim for an opening spot if Chris Rogers is ruled out of the third Ashes Test as Australia racked up the runs on day one of their tour match against Derbyshire.

Rogers is due to undergo further medical assessment on Friday, having already undergone scans this week after retiring in the second innings of the tourists' victory at Lord's as he was feeling disoriented while batting due to an apparent ear problem.

Team doctor Peter Brukner said Australia are optimistic the veteran left-hander will play at Edgbaston next week, but Marsh would appear to be first in line to replace the 37-year-old, if he is not passed fit, after making an impressive 101 before retiring out at the County Ground on Thursday.

Fellow opener David Warner also made a rapid 101 from only 108 deliveries before ending his innings as Australia reached 413-9 at stumps against an under-strength Derbyshire side.

Watson, who was replaced by Mitchell Marsh for the second Test at Lord's, made a quickfire 61 from only 45 balls, but captain Michael Clarke (16), Adam Voges (1) and Peter Nevill (1) all fell cheaply to Derbyshire's 19-year-old debutant Will Davis (3-63).

Brad Haddin (32) chipped in on his return to action after missing out at Lord's due to personal reasons, while Mitchell Marsh (53) made a half-century before another debutant, Harry White (2-85), had the all-rounder caught behind.

Peter Siddle, Fawad Ahmed and Pat Cummins will all be aiming to make an impact with the ball on day two after Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon were given a rest.
