September surgery for Broad

The 28-year-old revealed he would go under the knife to correct the long-term injury after taking a six-for on the opening day of the fourth Test with India at Old Trafford earlier this month.

Broad broke his nose in the same match, but recovered to play his part in the fifth and final Test at The Oval last week, which the hosts won by an innings and 244 runs to clinch a 3-1 series victory.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has now confirmed a date of September 4 for the procedure, with Broad aiming to make a swift recovery ahead of a 2015 schedule that includes an Ashes series and the ICC World Cup.

"The ECB medical team confirmed that England pace bowler Stuart Broad is to have surgery on his right knee on Thursday 4 September," read a statement from the ECB on Wednesday.

"A rehabilitation and recovery programme will be determined following the operation."

Broad may also require surgery on his nose, an injury that occurred when he was struck in the face by a bouncer from Varun Aaron on day three of the Old Trafford Test.
