Schedule revealed for England tour of South Africa

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced the schedule for their tour of South Africa on Monday, with the opening Test set to take place in Durban from Boxing Day next year.

Three further Tests will follow in January 2016, in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Centurion, before five ODIs in Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Centurion, Johannesburg and Cape Town during February.

England will wrap up their 10-week tour with two Twenty20 internationals in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

South Africa are currently top of the International Cricket Council Test rankings and the managing director of England Cricket, Paul Downton, expects a strong test.

"Any tour of South Africa is special and as the Proteas currently set the benchmark in Test and ODI cricket it will be a real challenge which our emerging team will relish," said Downton.

"We can be assured of fantastic support in South Africa from the thousands of loyal supporters who always follow us around the country - particularly at the Boxing Day Test in Durban and the New Year Test at Newlands in Cape Town."

Haroon Lorgat, Cricket South Africa's chief executive, added: "England have always been one of the most popular visitors to our shores.

"The battles in recent Test series for the Basil d’Oliveira Shield have always been hard fought and we will surely fight to keep the trophy in our possession.

"England are the best supported team away from home and once more we look forward to welcoming their legion of fans together with their players and team management. The well-known 'Barmy Army' always adds charm to the on-field competition.

"The tour has already drawn huge interest and promises to be the highlight of our summer with four Test matches being played."

South Africa were held to a 1-1 draw when they last hosted England in a Test series in 2009-10.
