Joe Root on road to recovery

Root sustained the injury in England's 25-run win over the West Indies in the third and final one-day international between the sides on March 5.

The 23-year-old went on to score 107 despite suffering the blow just three balls into his innings, and missed England's dismal ICC World Twenty20 campaign in Bangladesh as a result.

Yorkshire confirmed via their Twitter account on Sunday that Root would play for the second XI in a three-day friendly with local neighbours Lancashire at Northrop Hall.

The news will come as a welcome boost for England and new head coach Peter Moores, who was officially appointed on Saturday.

England's first fixture of the season is a one-day international with Scotland on May 9, with their first Test starting against Sri Lanka at Lord's on June 12.
