Ricky Ponting: No issue with Michael Clarke

But Ponting said he was offended by criticism from another former skipper - Mark Taylor.

Ponting has come under fire for details released in his autobiography, At the Close of Play, in which he revealed he held concerns about current skipper Clarke's leadership shortcomings when he was vice-captain.

Clarke was furious over some contents of the book, while Taylor this week accused the Tasmanian of breaking the sanctity of the Australian team by detailing the infamous dressing room stoush between Clarke and Simon Katich in the autobiography.

Ponting said on Wednesday he and Clarke were now on good terms after clearing the air with each other on Tuesday but Taylor was wrong to criticise the tell-all nature of the book.

Katich and Clarke had to be separated by stunned team-mates when the former grabbed the latter by the throat after the then vice-captain had wanted the traditional team song sung earlier than usual following Australia's victory over South Africa in Sydney - so he could leave the rooms to be with family and then girlfriend Lara Bingle.

But Ponting defended himself by saying most cricket followers were already privy to the 2009 bust up.

"Everyone in Australia knows Michael Clarke and Simon Katich had an issue in the change room," Ponting said.

"I've just given my side of it.

"I was actually really offended that Mark would come out and say that I would break what happens in the sanctuary in the change room.

"That's not me.

"I'm not out doing things like this to sell books.

"Australian cricket is dear for me. It's been my life for 20-odd years. I'm not going to do anything to try to bring that."
