Australia's hopes of giving their bowlers a run out on day two of their tour match with Derbyshire were dashed by the inclement weather at the County Ground.

Having declared overnight on 413-9, Australia took to the field on Friday looking to give the likes of Peter Siddle and Pat Cummins a good work out.

But just 29 overs were possible before the rain came and ended the action, Derbyshire having progressed to 81-2 in that time.

Injury-plagued Cummins - whose last first-class game was against South Africa A two years ago - removed Hamish Rutherford for 14.

Rutherford edged behind to Peter Nevill, who was given the gloves ahead of Brad Haddin, suggesting the latter is unlikely to win back his place for the third Test after missing out at Lord's due to personal issues.

Shane Watson, who pressed his case for a recall with a brisk 61 on Thursday, claimed the second wicket of Ben Slater for 20, but Australia were denied the chance to make any further inroads as the rain closed in.
