Philander makes Proteas return

Pace bowler Philander missed the Proteas' recent triangular series success over Australia and Zimbabwe due to a hamstring injury, but Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Tuesday that he is fit for their trips to Australasia next month.

The 29-year-old replaces Mthokozisi Shezi in South Africa's 15-man touring party, with his inclusion the only change to their squad from last month's triangular tournament.

Philander's fellow quick Beuran Hendricks, who was also sidelined for the triangular series with a back complaint, has failed to recover in time, meaning Kyle Abbott keeps his place.

South Africa will also play three Twenty20 matches against Australia as part of their tour, with Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw and Kagiso Rabada all in line for their debuts.

The Proteas begin their tour with three ODIs against New Zealand, the first of which takes place at the Bay Oval on October 21.

The trio of T20s with Australia begin in Adelaide on November 5, before they take on Darren Lehmann's side in five ODIs between November 14 and 23.
