Nothing has changed regarding Pietersen, says ECB

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has said "nothing has changed" regarding the possibility of Kevin Pietersen returning to the England set-up.

Pietersen, sensationally axed by his adopted country last February, looked to have been given hope of a potential recall when incoming ECB chairman Colin Graves gave an interview on Sunday in which he appeared to suggest the door had not been closed on the 34-year-old.

Graves told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme that the first requirement for Pietersen would be to play county cricket in 2015.

However, with speculation concerning the flamboyant batsman rising, the ECB - who cited a need to "rebuild not only the team but also team ethic and philosophy" when dropping Pietersen just over a year ago - indicated there had been no change in their approach.

"Colin Graves is correct. Nothing has changed," an ECB spokesperson is widely reported as saying.

"Only players who are playing consistent high-quality county cricket and who are seen as a positive influence will be selected."
