The 48-year-old had been linked with the role after Andy Flower left his position following England's shambolic performance in the Ashes.

However, Moody, who previously coached Sri Lanka and is currently in charge of Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, has said he is not interested in returning to international cricket at present.

"I haven't applied for the job so I won't be amongst those being interviewed," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I've had a couple of conversations with a couple of people and at this stage I'm not interested in the position considering what I currently have on my plate.

"We all know the commitment of an international coach is a huge commitment and that timing is not quite right for me.

"I'd like to think one day that I'd get another opportunity to look at the England job because it's certainly something I'm interested in, maybe one day."

Peter Moores, Mick Newell, Trevor Bayliss and current limited-overs coach Ashley Giles are believed to be the leading contenders to take charge of England across all formats.

Moody has backed Lancashire coach Moores, who led England between 2007 and 2009, to be a success if he is given a second chance with the national team.

"I've got a lot of respect for Peter Moores," Moody added. "He has done a terrific job wherever he has gone. Because of very unfortunate circumstances, his international career was cut short.

"I'm sure, if given the opportunity, he would do an excellent job."
