Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq rued a below-par batting performance as the tourists suffered a seven-wicket defeat against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday.
In the first meeting of a two-match series, Pakistan fell to 32-3 and, despite 58 from the skipper and a brisk 67 from Shahid Afridi of just 29 balls, they could only muster 210 all out.
That total proved to be well short of a competitive target for New Zealand, who completed their chase with more than 10 overs to spare as Ross Taylor and Grant Elliott both made unbeaten half-centuries.
"We lost wickets and in the first 10 overs we were nowhere, had no momentum and they bowled really well," Misbah said.
"We were 70-80 runs short and 280-290 would have been a good score. I'm really pleased to see Shahid Afridi bat well.
"I'm getting better in the practice games, scored some runs and it was difficult to come after two months but I have scored runs.
"When you defend this sort of total, you have to try to take wickets but sometimes you give away runs."
Misbah's opposite number Brendon McCullum, meanwhile, was delighted with the all-round performance of his side.
"It was a pretty professional bowling display and the fielding was outstanding, probably the best this summer, the intensity was good," he said.
"The seamers were able to swing the ball today and it's nice when you get the rewards.
"Guppi [Martin Guptill] has been playing really nicely, especially in the nets, and doesn't look like he's far away from a big score.
"Taylor always finds ways to score runs and it was a well-thought out partnership."
