Victorian quick Clint McKay has been rushed into the Australian Test squad as concerns linger over the fitness of Ben Hilfenhaus.

McKay, an accomplished seamer, will take a break from competing in England's Twenty20 competition to join the squad in Leeds ahead of Wednesday's Test at Headingley.

McKay's solitary Test appearance came against the West Indies last summer, recording figures of 1-101 at the WACA.

The Victorian was included in the March tour of New Zealand but was not selected in either of the two Tests.

He most recently took part in Australia's 3-2 ODI series loss to England before being released to play as an import for county side Yorkshire.

Hilfenhaus injured his left shoulder attempting a diving save on the fourth and final day of Australia's 150-run victory over Pakistan at Lord's.

Team physio Alex Kountouris has been working with the Tasmanian since Friday's win, and Australian selectors remain hopeful he will have recovered from soreness by Wednesday.

If Hilfenhaus is unable to hold his place, it is anticipated that South Australian paceman Peter George will make his Test debut.

George was a late addition to the squad when fast bowler Ryan Harris was struck down with a knee injury during the fifth one-day international against England.
