Brendon McCullum is raring to get going under the lights in Adelaide on Thursday ahead of what he feels could be the start of a revolution in Test cricket.
New Zealand face Australia in the first day/night Test, the hosts holding a 1-0 lead going into the final instalment of the three-match series.
As well as seeing action under floodlights, the match will be the first to use a pink ball and McCullum believes it could spark a new interest in the long form of the game.
"I think people are voting with their feet," he said. "They are encouraged by what the pink ball Test match has to offer.
"And for us to play in front of 40,000-odd people in a Test match is pretty amazing, so we're really, really excited about it. Hopefully it goes off brilliantly [and] there's no challenges, no problems.
"If we have that final session on the fifth day under lights, and a Test match result is in the balance, then I think that it could be anything for Test cricket. This could be something that is outstanding for the game moving forward."
McCullum's excitement was echoed by his opposite number Steve Smith, the Australian skipper relishing the chance to take part in the landmark occasion.
Smith said: "We're creating history here, I think a lot of people will be watching from around the world and that's really exciting for world cricket.
"There's some big numbers expected at least for the first three days, I think it's really exciting for us moving forward."
