Marsh plays down talk of last Test chance

Shaun Marsh does not see his recall for the third Test against New Zealand as a last chance to prove he can cut it at the highest level for Australia.

The 32-year-old batsman was given the nod to replace the injured Usman Khawaja in the final match of the series at the Adelaide Oval.

Marsh's selection ahead of the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Michael Klinger came in for criticism, but head coach Darren Lehmann said he had earned another opportunity.

The experienced Marsh has averaged only 33.11 from his 15 Test appearances, but has been in good form for Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield.

And Marsh is not putting too much pressure on himself as he prepares to face the Black Caps in the first day-night Test, which starts on Friday.

"You try not to think about it like that," Marsh said when asked if this could be his last Test opportunity.

"For me, it's another chance to come here and prove to myself that I can play at this level and get out there and get some runs.

"I felt really good over the last couple of weeks ... the last two Shield games I have felt a lot better and felt like I was getting back to my best so I go into this game confident I can do well."
