State’s premier sets sights on Manly outing

Any club out there looking for an experienced left-arm seamer and handy lower order bat?

NSW Premier Mike Baird is open to offers after impressing on debut at Manly's new training facilities on the northern beaches.

Baird shed the suit and tie to send down the first official delivery at the new Graham Reserve nets before punching a few through the covers with the bat.

A great afternoon at Graham's Reserve to officially open our new practice facilities. Premier and Club Patron Mike Baird officially bowled the first ball to first grade skipper Adam Crosthwaite #bleedblue #topshelffacilities #batsbetterthanhebowls

Experienced Blizzard features in ACT’s 53

IPL and BBL heavy hitter Aiden Blizzard featured in ACT's Kingsgrove Cup T20 clash with Northern Districts on Sunday – but it's a game he won’t recall with any great fondness.

With the match reduced to just five overs due to rain, Blizzard was run out for a run-a-ball seven as his side scraped together 53.

Sydney Thunder and Northern Districts opening batsmen Daniel Hughes went about the task of knocking off the runs with fellow opener Andrew Harriott, wrapping up the match in just over three overs without losing a wicket.

As one ACT player muttered, it's a long way to come for eight overs of cricket.

Horner’s unbelievable hat-trick

How about this for impact?

Sutherland third grader Josh Horner was thrown the ball as Bankstown looked to tee off at the back end of their innings.

What his side didn’t expect is for the part-timer to take a hat trick off his one and only over, wrap up Bankstown’s innings and set his side for victory.

Horner took 3-4 in his one over spell and capped off the only hat-trick for the round. He didn’t fare as well with the bat however, coming in at 3 and walking back with a duck.

Age is just a number as first grade’s second oldest player stars

Aged 47 years, 92 days old and boasting over 400 games of grade cricket experience, Hawkesbury’s Anthony Kershler took an astonishing 5-18 off 10 overs to help his side to a comfortable win over Manly-Warringah in their one-day clash on Saturday.

Former Australian Test and NSW off-spinner Greg Matthews was the last to perform the feat in 2008, taking 5-28 aged 48 years and 77 days.

Kershler is a former NSW rep and has clearly still got what it takes.

Former international returns to bully grade cricketers

Former Australian Test and current NSW representative Moises Henriques starred in his 100th First Grade innings for St George, putting on a 137 run partnership with fellow NSW batsman Kurtis Patterson, who fell for 43.

Henriques made the run-a-ball 102 in what was his eighth century for the club.

Penrith’s five bowlers were the biggest casualties of the match, with four of the bunch going at a rate of five plus an over.
