Making The Grade week 3

Jay Lenton

Lenton’s triple-treat

We mentioned last week with that there was a three-way battle for the NSW keeping spot between Ryan Carters, Peter Nevill and Jay Lenton.

But after this week, it’s all but a one-horse race.

After smashing 113* last week, 101* on Saturday, and 104* in Sunday’s Kingsgrove T20 cup, Lenton became the first player to score a hundred in consecutive innings across One Day, Two Day and T20 cricket.

The keeper-batsman now averages an astonishing 121.3 after 6 matches and has also picked up a cheeky 11 dismissals to add to his tally of achievements.

Keep an eye on this bloke; we know other States will be.

Streaker runs amuck in Fairfield

Fairfield cricket had its very own pitch invader in their 3rd grade clash with Manly at Fairfield oval on Saturday.

Wielding a cane and walking up to the pitch, it is alleged the patron just wanted his five minutes of fame and wasn’t happy when ushered from the field.

The break in play went against Fairfield however, with the on-strike batsmen getting out caught-behind the next ball.

We’re hearing Manly players called the streaker back for a post-game beer in appreciation of his efforts.

White’s all right: Double ton makes history

Bankstown’s Kerrod White absolutely dismembered the Hawkesbury bowling attack on Saturday as he smoked a scintillating 226* off 249 balls.

White become the fourth player in Bankstown Cricket history to reach the 200 mark and with the help of Phil Wells (95) Bankstown declared at 3 for 378, reducing Hawkesbury to 2-35 at stumps.

It’s rumoured Hawks players might get out next week just to watch him bat again.

No State, No Worries

The future of NSW cricket is looking bright.

With the Matador Cup in full swing Grade clubs said goodbye to their state contracted players for the week, but it certainly made no difference to the scores.

Seven out of ten matches saw a score of over 300 posted, with Northern District posting 6/398 against a Shane Watson-less Sutherland side. Sydney Thunder batsman Daniel Hughes the star whacking 146, but he was almost outshone by Aaron Flaherty who posted a low-order 122*.

Appleton stumps Blacktown

What does the top six batsmen from Blacktown 3rd grade have in common? They all got out to the same bloke!

UNSW seamer Mark Appleton took an unbelievable 6/4 off 9 overs as he helped his side roll Blacktown for an abysmal 62.

Sitting at 8-39 Blacktown were all in sorts and no chance of posting a decent total.

UNSW have already taken 1st innings points, finishing at 8/141 at stumps.
